We treat halitosis fist by an initial diagnosis, then we test the volatile sulfur odor with our halimeter.  If its above a certain number we irrigate and have the patient come back and take their readings and then irrigate the oral cavity again. When the patient leaves the office we give them a sulfur dioxide rinse with instructions.
